121108pvautos_167x94.jpgIBM's former CEO, Louis V. Gerstner Jr., talks about the auto industry bailout and how leadership culture is the key to a successful restructuring, in this excerpt from the Wall Street Journal's Viewpoints Executive Breakfast Series.

Mr. Gerstner makes some excellent points about the change process and leadership culture, these include:

  • Throwing money at a problem without a strategy is counterproductive.
  • Organizations without well functioning Leadership Cultures move too slow in this dynamic economy.
  • You cannot turn around a company without dealing with the cultural issues of the organization.
  • Effective leadership culture is essential to executing strategic vision.
  • Getting an organization to change behaviors is a challenge.
  • If you can't change the behavior of the organization you will not be successful in the execution of the strategy.
